Lets create a 'Cookie Jar of Dates'...

Yes, it's easy to say 'date yourself' 'treat yourself' but where/how do you begin???

Well are there somethings that you've always wanted to do?  Something's that you know you need to do or want to do from time-to-time?  This is the starting point!

Now this is where the arts and crafts begins ;-)

Why not start by creating yourself a 'Cookie Jar' of Dates - Noooo not with actual cookies!!

Things you will need:

*A Jar with a lid, a jar you really like, you can even decorate it!

* At least 5 4 sheets of A4 Paper. Colourful ones would be great but white sheets are also okay.

* Colouring pencils or crayons

* Scissors

Lets get started!:

On the A4 sheet write a short sentence, paragraph or simple word that states or reminds you of something that you want to do or would love to do! Don't worry about the cost at this point.. Continue to do this until you can't think of anything else to write.  The list will continue to grow over time so don't worry if you can't find a lot straight away.

Then, once you've done, cut the sentences/paragraphs/pictures out into individual strips and  then think about the time you'll need to do each thing, e.g., a face mask and some quiet time might be *two hours*, visiting a special place might be *half a day*  etc.  Then think about the cost, is it something that is *free*, something that will cost say £5.00 or £50.00?

Now, at the back of the date cookie use a colour and/or write the time the date will take and the cost... e.g (blue dot = 1 hour date & I've written £3.00, as this will be the cost of the oats, honey and bananas for my face mask)   j

Dates with yourself don't have to be expensive, it's simply about enjoying, loving and appreciating yourself! Just make it something that YOU want to do.

Geat! now that that's done! Simply fold the paper up, ensuring that the colour (date code) and cost is visible, and place your dates, or cookies, into your 'cookie jar' ;-)

Then, whenever you find that you have a spare hour, day, weekend or even ten minutes! (yes, 10 minutes can be spent thinking about an achievement and remembering how you achieved it, how great you've done and how far you've come, or even spent doing a short bit of relaxation!)  Try to remember how you felt, what it looked like, the sounds, smells and the feelings in your tummy! Well that depends on what it is of course! Lol.  Just remember, you are amazing and you have done so much already!

The most important thing about the cookie jar of dates is that you do exactly what YOU want to do in honour of yourself; for YOU.

 We can write our achievements on a CV and tell family and friends, but how many of us actually sit with the feeling of our achievement, I mean really sit back and tell ourselves just how well we've done and how far we've come?

There's a Caribbean saying... "Self praise is no praise" well how misunderstood and self-defeating is that?  If you can't see how well you've done and can't appreciate yourself, why should anyone else?  Why should your children appreciate their achievements and push to gain more?? Honour your experiences and be thankful!

Things you will need:

*A Jar with a lid, a jar you really like, you can even decorate it!

* At least 5 4 sheets of A4 Paper. Colourful ones would be great but white sheets are also okay.

* Colouring pencils or crayons

* Scissors

Lets get started!:

On the A4 sheet write a short sentence, paragraph or simple word that states or reminds you of something that you have accomplished, achieved or done that you are proud of. It can be something like finishing school, getting your job, obtaining a degree or certificate, overcoming an event or situation.  just make it something that YOU feel proud of and good about.

Continue to do this until you can't think of anything else to write.  The list will continue to grow over time so don't worry if you can't find a lot straight away.  We make daily accomplishments everyday just by living.. mine today is getting up earlier than usual and making it on time to see my beautiful Goddaughter's face as she waved me off to go into school ;-)  it reminded me of how loved and appreciated I am, and how far I've come from being that little girl at the school gate.  You see, it can be the littlest of things!.

Then, once you've done, cut the sentences/paragraphs out into individual strips and roll the pieces of paper  around a pencil, so that it rolls up. Some people may prefer to simply fold the paper up, and that's also okay.

Now... place the pieces of paper, your 'cookies'  into your 'cookie jar' ;-)

Then, whenever you forget how great you are, how far you've come, what you have already achieved and just how unique and amazing you are... Open your cookie jar and pull out a 'cookie', sit back and remember how great it felt to accomplish that cookie!

Try to remember how you felt, what it looked like, the sounds, smells and the feelings in your tummy! Well that depends on what it is of course! Lol.  Just remember, you are amazing and you have done so much already!

Self Rememberance

I  don't know about you, but some days I am so busy that I forget to eat!  You know those weeks where everything seems to happen at once? From a last minute appointment, or a catch-up with friends, to an urgent deadline that crept up on you... I find myself walking past the mirror and realising that I have not plucked my eyebrows in a week, let alone wash my hair (giggle).

So here is a few tips to remind me, and hopefully you, to take sometime out to simple remember, ourselves.

This can be in the form of a healthy meal - check out some recipes here

A Self-Date Day / Night - yes, I said it; we all deserve a day where we totally pamper, cherish, and adorn ourselves, the way we want our partner, or future partner, to cherish us - here is a summary of my first 'Self-Date'.  I am proud to say that I have had many more since this one.  When will you start? Feel free to let me know via twitter or Facebook.

Fancy being creative?  Well have a look below at some fun and creative ideas for you to do!

Go on a one-day course, by yourself

I know this might sound daunting for some of you; it used to be really daunting for me too! The thought of being that 'Billy-no-mates' sat by herself in the cinema, or at restaurant, filled me with terror, so do you know what I did? I felt the terror, accepted that I would feel it, and then I went out and did it anyway.  It took a few goes, but it was worth it :)

Now I go to lampshade making classes on my own (lol), as well as dressmaking courses, theatre shows, events, movie premiers, and restaurants.  You can do it too! The first step is always the hardest.

See, it's not that terrifying once you get into the activities - you might even meet new people :)

For those that still feel like this is too much right now (that is okay and I understand), there are also some great free mobile apps that allow you to meet other people who also want to go out and do things, but sometime don't have friends who are interested in the same things, or available.

MeetUp is a good app - it is not a dating app, don't worry (lol) - you can enter anything you want into the group search (from 'dog walking group', to 'introverts meetup', or guitar lessons, or business social') and if there is a group running, you can join.  You can even see who else is in the group and who will be attending the next meetup, then, if you want, you can message them and ask if they want to meet up and head over together (you can see if they are bringing a guest or not) and soothe both of your anxities about going alone.  The group organisers are also usually willing to meet you at the start of the meetup to welcome you.

Another great app I use is WOWCHER - I am telling you, I have found deals to take my family camping; shortbreaks; massages; archery lessons, and more.  It is also a great way to meet like-minded people.

So whatever you do, or don not do, just make sure it works for you.
